George Sligo remained Seacliff’s proprietor until the 1850s when the estate was purchased by John Watson Laidlay, an indigo planter and silk manufacturer who had spent much of his life in India. Laidlay is said to have made alterations to the house in the time he spent there, enjoying retirement before his death in 1885. His son Andrew inherited and built the nearby harbour at Gegan Rock, reputed to be the smallest in Britain. Sadly, Andrew’s residence at Seacliff was to be cut tragically short.

Rather than remove all material as is often done, in various places it is left to invade the space thus connecting in an intimate way the house to the very essence of Sydney – its sandstone base. Water occurs at various levels – a pool, a shallow reflecting pool with bridge and an outdoor bath.

Under my arm I carried Scotland’s Endangered Houses; the book that had become something of my bible during ruin-hunting ventures. For the past year the house I now approached had been staring out from its front cover, imploring me to visit, and I neared with expectation. Ahead the wall turned, and in its angle stood a glowing doorway like some threshold to another domain not out of place in The Secret Garden.

The house was a roofless and hollow shell, with a great gash left in its flank from the collapse of a section of exterior masonry. Unusually, it was here on the northern aspect where the principal rooms had been arranged, rather than adopting their more favoured placement on the sunny south. The reason for this was undoubtedly to capitalize on the private panoramic seascape this position offered, as captivating today as ever before. In the past month, 1 home has been sold in Seacliff.
This left the building’s masonry fully visible, the soft sandstone evidently eroding in intricate lace-like patterns, eaten away by the salt of the sea air. The colours were especially pleasing; ranging from soft golden hues to shades of warm pink and the rich russet of a decorative window surround. Though now a private home they were purchased by the Navy in World War II and used as the base for HMS Scottish Seacliff, a secret research facility concerned with navigation training and U-boat defence. The South Coast of NSW is a unique place; having been settled by Irish immigrants who felt the areas landscape reminded them of home.

Caroline hires a handsome young handyman named Chris Nelson (Gil Gerard) to complete the job. Nellie and Mrs. Oleson don't help matters when they share Mary's suspicions. Eventually, Mary confronts Chris with her suspicions and tells him he must leave, only to find out later it was a misunderstanding. They continue to argue, and eventually, Laura breaks their engagement. It’s the Ingalls family origin story and shows the immediate challenges they face as soon as they settle on the banks of Plum Creek, just outside Walnut Grove. Season 8, Episode 17 – Days of Sunshine, Days of Shadow Pt. 1
Eliza Jane falls in love with Harve Miller (James Cromwell), a friend of Almanzo's who has come to live in Walnut Grove. Nellie finds out that she is pregnant, which comes as a shock to her mother. Caroline hears that her mother and stepfather are coming for a visit, but her mother passes away during the train journey. Caroline's stepfather, Frederick Holbrook, is inconsolably distraught, until the family—enjoying his tales of when Caroline was young—persuade him to write his autobiography. Meanwhile, Mary is heavily pregnant, and soon gives birth to Charles' and Caroline's first grandson, Adam Charles Holbrook Kendall.

Season 8, Episode 9 – For the Love of Nancy
Anna is reunited with her baby, telling Laura she will keep the name Grace. A new family, the Carters (Stan Ivar as John, Pamela Roylance as Sarah, Lindsay Kennedy as older son Jeb, and David Friedman as younger son Jason), move into the Ingalls house. Meanwhile, Almanzo and Laura take in their niece, Jenny Wilder (played by Shannen Doherty), when Almanzo's brother dies and raise her alongside their daughter, Rose. The Wilders appear prominently in some episodes, while in others they appear only in early scenes used to introduce the story or its characters. The explanation given for the original characters' absence was that they moved to Burr Oak, Iowa, to pursue a promising life.
As Lassiter walks off in defeat, Reverend Alden loudly proclaims that Walnut Grove did not die in vain, prompting a huge celebration. Jason begins doing odd jobs for an aging woman, Ruthy Leland (Vera Miles). Sarah becomes jealous over the blossoming friendship, until Ruthy reveals her that she is dying. Jason makes plenty of happy memories with his friend before her death. Hester-Sue's ex-husband, Sam Terhune, comes to Walnut Grove claiming he has reformed himself from his drinking and gambling and asking for a second chance with her.
Season 8, Episode 15 – Uncle Jed

Pregnant Caroline worries Charles will be disappointed if her baby is a girl. Jonathan's objections to his wife's needed new job leads to a separation.

Caleb Hodgekiss, an ex-convict, finds him and takes him to his house where his wife takes care of him. Hodgekiss volunteers to get the donations from Walnut Grove, but plans to take the donations for himself. However, his experiences with the people of Walnut Grove, especially Mary, bring about a change of heart.
Mrs. Oleson opposes his plans and cruelly insults Rachel, and when Willie stands up to his mother and defends Rachel against her, she vows not to show up at the wedding. In the event, she does go, but theatrically dressed in black funeral clothes. Nels later reminds Harriet that his mother similarly opposed their marriage, and he says he has never regretted it. Meanwhile, Mrs. Flannery, a childless elderly friend of Laura's, passes away after gifting her big house to Laura and Almanzo, who set about turning it into a boardinghouse, and Willie and Rachel move in as their first boarders. Joe Kagan gives up his farm and moves to Sleepy Eye to work with Jonathan Garvey in his freight business and hoping to persuade Hester-Sue to marry him. However, although she has feelings for Joe, he reminds her of her shiftless and unfaithful ex-husband, and she has plans to marry a successful local businessman.
This is the first Christmas episode in which the entire Ingalls family isn’t together in the final scene. In the emotional scene where Elmer reads his essay, announces his withdrawal from school and runs out of the classroom, Laura doesn’t budge from her desk. After hearing something like that from a student, a teacher should have at least called out to him or run after him. The abandoned house that Albert and James find in the storm is the same house that Laura and Almanzo later own in Season 9.
Royal's wife believes a parent should never say 'No' to a child, and their boys' constant mischief tries the patience of Almanzo and Laura, who are determined to adopt a different parenting style with their own children. Six months before their planned wedding, Almanzo buys land for free from a Mr. Gray for a farm for him and Laura, but he agrees to a harsh deal that he must pay off the mortgage by a deadline or lose the title. When there is a drought, Gray, who owns the neighbouring farm, dams the stream which also waters Almanzo's land, thereby threatening Almanzo's crop and his ability to meet the deal.
When a tornado hits, Charles loses his wheat crop and the house and farm buildings are badly damaged. A despondent Charles decides to move the family back to Wisconsin, and he agrees a sale to an elderly couple who had owned the property previously. A crushed Laura prays with the Reverend for Charles to find the strength for them to somehow stay in Walnut Grove. Meanwhile, Mary and John are discovering they have feelings for each other. While Charles and Mr. Edwards are away for three weeks on a delivery trip for Mr. Hanson, Mary is enthralled by the prize to be awarded for the best score in an extra-credit examination, a Webster's Dictionary. However, her late-night studying causes a fire in the barn, resulting in Caroline forbidding her to take the examination, but Mary decides to take the test anyway.
Charles takes her to an optometrist and she initially appears to need stronger lenses, but the vision still worsens a few days later. She returns to the eye doctor, who discovers she had scarlet fever a few years back. The resulting nerve damage means Mary's vision cannot be saved, and she will soon go blind. In denial, Charles does not tell his daughter until a few days before she wakes up and finds, to her horror, she is completely blind. Mary becomes bitter over her predicament and having to rely on others for basic needs. Meanwhile, Charles, Jonathan Garvey, and the rest of the town of Walnut Grove have another problem as the whole township is threatened by an escalation of a dispute between The Grange and the railroads.
When Doc Baker makes an impassioned plea at the next church service and is supported by the congregation, Dr. Ledoux decides to stay. A young, talented painter named Annie Crane (Madeleine Stowe) is the talk of the town for her talent, despite having lost her sight in early childhood. An art exhibitor is impressed by Annie's work and arranges for her pictures to be publicized. Annie's birth mother realizes who she is and tries to arrange a meeting, but Annie refuses, embittered by memories of being abandoned by her as a child.
After their daughter Rose Wilder Lane died in 1968, the plate was discovered among her possessions and placed in the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home Association in Mansfield, Missouri, where it remains today for visitors to see. This episode marks the first time that we see Charles Ingalls hold one of his grandchildren–Rose, who is his third grandchild. Remember that Mary miscarries her first son and her second infant son is killed in a fire during Season 6, and we never see Charles actually hold and enjoy him. Up until the very last scene, there are absolutely no children who appear in the episode. They appear briefly at the end with no speaking lines, but that’s it. This is absolutely the first and only episode where we hear anybody refer to Nancy as “darling” (except her parents, of course, mostly her mother).
The men are all reluctant to sign, including Nels, who is in the middle of another big disagreement with Harriet. Charles and Almanzo also oppose it, even though they believe in equality and joint ownership in their own marriages. So Caroline moves out of the house and organizes other wives in a mass 'walk out' from their matrimonial duties. Eventually, the husbands, led by Charles, decide that they can support the petition, and marital peace and harmony is restored.
As winter approaches many are leaving to head back East, but the Ingalls family ends up house-sitting for a surveyor. The house is large with all the provisions they need, the family is quite comfortable for the winter. As their father goes to stake a claim, the girls spend their days and nights boarding and feeding all the pioneers. Laura suggests she take the teaching position in Radnor to help them earn money for a new farm, but Almanzo still objects and postpones the wedding. The relationship of Eliza Jane and Harve seems to blossom, but when she tells him she loves him, he reveals he is in love with someone else. The loss of her dream incites Eliza Jane to strike out for a new life elsewhere and to bring Laura and Almanzo back together by allowing Laura to take the teaching job in Walnut Grove, along with the house which goes with it.
The Days of Laura Ingalls Wilder
She appeared briefly in The Reincarnation of Nellie Part 1, and as a guest star in The Christmas They Never Forgot. Subsequently, the shots of her running down the hill with her sisters were removed from the opening theme. After Caroline complains about the small size of her kitchen, Charles decides to build an addition onto the house, but after starting the work he has to leave to take a rush delivery to Mankato. Caroline hires a handsome young handyman named Chris Nelson (Gil Gerard) to complete the job. Nellie and Mrs. Oleson don't help matters when they share Mary's suspicions.
James Cromwell
Annie's birth mother realizes who she is and tries to arrange a meeting, but Annie refuses, embittered by memories of being abandoned by her as a child. Meanwhile, with Nellie's permission, Percival confronts his mother-in-law over her interference in their lives by her overprotectiveness of Nellie. The aftereffects caused her to go blind, and she was carrying Annie at the time of the sickness, who contracted them as well. The 1st Annual Charity Picnic is held at The Harriet Oleson Institute for the Advancement of Blind Children to raise funds to extend the building. Albert and a friend named Clay experiment with smoking a pipe in the basement and accidentally start a fire, which destroys the building and claims the lives of Alice Garvey and Adam Jr. Afterwards, Mary is in deep shock and denial that her baby has gone, so Adam goes to New York City to find specialist help for her and to look for a new teaching post.
Michael Landon
Meanwhile, Laura becomes depressed when she goes to ask Almanzo to the circus, only to find out that he is already taking a rude, snobby and snooty young woman named Christie, for whom she has been mending a dress. When she delivers the dress five minutes late, Christie refuses to pay her the full amount. Laura has a heart to heart with the sad clown about Almanzo and discovers the clown is the circus manager! He keeps her secret and allows her to be an unrecognizable clown at the circus. Laura seeks revenge on Christie when she becomes a guest clown for the circus, dumping water on her and, after she runs off, kissing Almanzo. Later at the circus, Nels announces [as the ring master] to all in attendance that Annabelle is his sister and how proud he is of her.
Caroline and Charles both have quiet talks with Laura to restore harmony in the family. While in Mankato, Charles encounters a drunken Mr. Edwards in the midst of a bar fight and takes him back to Walnut Grove. To encourage him to stay, Charles gets him a job at Hanson's Mill, while Caroline quietly sets him up with widow Grace Snider. Their relationship appears to be blooming, until they have a serious difference of opinion. When Laura was still a baby, Pa and Ma decided to move to a farm near Keytesville, Missouri, and the family lived there about a year. After two years in their little house on the prairie, the Ingallses went back to the Big Woods to live in the same house they had left three years earlier...
The Wilders appear prominently in some episodes, while in others they appear only in early scenes used to introduce the story or its characters. The explanation given for the original characters' absence was that they moved to Burr Oak, Iowa, to pursue a promising life. The show lost viewers, because the Ingalls family (except Laura) left the series. Mrs. Oleson spreads the news around the town, suggesting that Albert is the father. To raise money, Albert gets a job with the town's blacksmith, Irv Hartwig (Richard Jaeckel). When Mr. Webb finds out that Sylvia is still seeing Albert, he grabs his shotgun and goes to the Ingalls' house.
Season 4 (1977–
Laura continues to clash with Eliza Jane, who wants them all to move to Minneapolis. Then Laura is injured when a tornado strikes, and she becomes angry when she discovers the calamitous effect upon their house. Seeing her anger, Almanzo is inspired to pitch in and help rebuild the house.

The promise of becoming rich is realized by only a lucky few, which leads to ill-feeling, lawlessness and even deaths. Laura and Carl come across an ex-miner who has seen the ill-effects of the search for gold and lives like a hermit. Eventually, seeing the bad effect it is having on others, Charles and Mr. Edwards realize that they have riches enough, in the shape of their loving families, and they decide to go home. Mary is severely injured when a horse kicks her in the stomach while she is putting him away in the barn.
However, on the wedding day, some surprise visitors show up, and Hester-Sue sadly realizes that, despite his good intentions, Sam has not changed. Laura is invited by Eliza Jane to attend a college class on 'Great American Writers' in Arizona, and on the train she meets a man, Mort, who is going to the same class and who takes a liking to Eliza Jane. However, she only has eyes for their class professor, but he causes problems between the two women when he propositions Laura. An official from the Board of Education visits to assess the Walnut Grove school for state funding and he suggests that the curriculum should be extended. She introduces lessons in French and art appreciation, and also a dress code, to the consternation of most pupils and many parents.
The nine books in the original series tell the true story of Laura's family on the American frontier in the 19th century. While Laura Ingalls grows up in a little house on the western prairie, Almanzo Wilder is living on a big farm in New York State. Here Almanzo and his brother and sisters help with the summer planting and fall harvest.
Charles is despondent and decides to move his family back to their old house in Wisconsin. When Harriet Oleson’s niece Kate (Anne Archer, who played Michael Douglas’ wife in Fatal Attraction) comes to visit Walnut Grove, she and the much older Doc Baker fall in love fast. In this episode, a lawyer visits to tell Charles that he is the heir to the massive estate of his late Uncle Ned, who owned the Ingalls Carriage Company, and a large house in St Louis. Charles and Caroline get carried away and run up a large debt at Oleson’s Mercantile. Ellin turned this devotion into a weekly podcast Wild Nights on the Prairie with Ray Ellin.
Laura and Albert work hard to harvest honey from a beehive after making a deal with Mr. Oleson, who said he would buy it at 30 cents a pound. Meanwhile, Adam wins a teaching award and must travel to Minneapolis to receive it, but they do not have enough money for the trip. Laura and Albert offer to sacrifice their earnings from selling the honey to cover most of the cost.

Proceed straight through the traffic lights to continue onto North Josh Birmingham Parkway. Continue across Wilkinson Boulevard to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport entrance. This project plans for the design and construction of additional gates on Concourse C. Numerous domestic and international airlines serve at Charlotte Airport.
Scheduled jet flights (Eastern Air Lines Boeing 720s) began in early 1962.[12] Eastern used the west pier, Piedmont and Delta the center pier, and United and Southern used the east pier. The United States Army Air Forces took control of the airport and established Charlotte Air Base in early 1941, which was renamed Morris Field soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The US military invested more than $5 million in airfield improvements by the time the facility was returned to the City of Charlotte in 1946.[11] The airfield was used by the Third Air Force for antisubmarine patrols and training. In 1936, Charlotte Municipal Airport opened, operated by the City of Charlotte; Eastern Air Lines began scheduled passenger service in 1937.
That’s why knowing all the necessary Charlotte Airport flight information saves you time and peace of mind. The Charlotte-Douglas Airport offers a lot of options for parking and it's even possible to see a real-time map of parking availability on the airport's website. Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is one of the nation's busiest and if you find yourself with some extra time and an appetite for food or retail therapy, it has plenty of restaurants and shops to choose from. Whether you're looking to sit down and try some local flavor or simply grab a quick bite, you've got plenty of options. And if you have some time to kill between connections and feel the urge to shop, you will find a variety of stores to meet your needs, from those selling sunglasses to cell phone chargers and gifts to take home for the family. There is road access from Wilkinson Blvd/Andrew Jackson Hwy/29, and I-84.
We will quantify the benefits and costs of additional development and define the phases of development. And a must-visit spot is Whisky River, founded by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. It’s a great pick when you’re looking for elevated bar food in a fun atmosphere. There are 3 daily parking lots — east, west, and north — located a little further from the terminal.
Claire, through now-Speaker Cole, blackmails Justice Abruzzo into recusing himself in a case dealing with her power to launch nuclear weapons. Janine Skorsky and Doug continue to work to uncover the Underwoods, with Doug leaking contents of Frank's secret audio diary while Claire blames everything on Frank. Claire then uses the pretense of ICO obtaining a nuclear weapon to create a crisis, leading the Shepherds and Doug to accelerate their plans. After sending a copy of Frank's audio and letter opener to Claire, Doug visits her in the Oval Office where he admits that he killed Frank because he was undermining his own legacy. Doug threatens and wounds Claire with the letter opener, but when he draws back, she grabs it and stabs him in the stomach. As he lies bleeding on the floor, she covers his mouth and suffocates him, completely unaware that, thanks to Doug, journalist Janine Skorsky is going to expose her crimes.

House of Cards is the first TV series to have been produced by a studio for Netflix. Some of Underwood's dialogue throughout the series is presented in a direct address to the audience, a narrative technique that breaks the fourth wall. During season 1, he is the Democratic Majority Whip in the United States House of Representatives.

All of the narrative upheavals are due to Kevin Spacey's off-screen behavior after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced, eventually leading to his removal from the series entirely while Season 6 was still in production. Despite Spacey's abrupt exit, the writers do give closure to Frank's story, which isn't revealed until the final minutes of episode 8, in a face-off featuring two of Frank's closest allies. Claire relocates to Dallas and runs for Congress in her home district. The incumbent, Doris Jones, plans to retire and endorse her daughter Celia as her successor. Claire offers them federal funding for a key Planned Parenthood clinic in exchange for stepping down, but they refuse the offer.
Season 1
“Although the Klan ridiculed Underwood as the ‘Jew, jug, and Jesuit’ candidate, the national press extolled his statesmanship, tolerance, and courage,” according to Flynt’s book Alabama in the Twentieth Century. Though this is extremely not kosher, Doug got Frank to the top of the transplant line, which in turn meant killing that Moretti guy who was supposed to be next in line. (Moretti died and Doug started screwing his widow because of course he did. She was a sad brunette and Doug is just a man with a very specific, basic weakness.) Anyway, Frank has been on those meds since season four. Let us know in the comments, and read our review of the sixth and final season. The Shepherds decide to influence Claire by other means, including through a Supreme Court justice they convince her to nominate.
Spacey reprised his role of Underwood in three Christmas videos released in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Underwood begins a symbiotic, and ultimately sexual, relationship with Zoe Barnes, a young political reporter, secretly feeding her damaging stories about his political rivals to sway public opinion as needed. Meanwhile, he manipulates Peter Russo, a troubled alcoholic congressman from Pennsylvania, into helping him undermine Walker's pick for Secretary of State, Senator Michael Kern. Underwood eventually has Kern replaced with his own choice, Senator Catherine Durant.
Spacey was one of the first three actors playing leading roles in web-television series to be nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards. Spacey has also been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, winning one, and five Screen Actors Guild Awards, including two cast nominations and including two wins, for his performances. In his first term as president, Underwood initiated the landmark America Works jobs program, which lasted for several months until it was defunded by Congress.
Episodes
He and his administration was investigated by the Declaration of War committee, which led to his resignation from the presidency on March 15, 2017. He was succeeded by his wife and successor, Claire Hale, with Underwood becoming the First Gentleman and continuing to live in the White House. He died in May 2017 after being poisoned by his right-hand man Doug Stamper, and was buried in South Carolina. Scholars and historians rank Underwood as one of the worst presidents in American history.
In the resulting trade war with China, Tusk opposes Walker's efforts to deal with the crisis and begins having a tribal casino funnel money into Republican PACs in retaliation. When Frank discovers that Feng is the source of the donations, he gets Feng to end his partnership with Tusk in exchange for a lucrative contract for a bridge over Long Island Sound. After Claire declined Frank’s phone call in the Oval Office (when Season 5 ended, she was supposed to pardon him for, well, all that stuff he did over the course of the series), she mentions to the camera it was the last time they spoke. Two months later, Frank storms into the White House, furious at Claire for not giving him the pardon she promises she would. Scared, Claire locked herself in her room and found Frank dead in his bed the next morning. Pugliese and James Gibson also answer questions about the future of the franchise, and imagine what life looks for President Claire Hale beyond the moment when House of Cards finally falls.

House of Cards Season 6 Review - What Happens to Frank Underwood in House of Cards Season 6?.
"A lot of people think of the president of the United States as being an incredibly powerful person, which he or she is, but with that power also comes a lot of constrictions, limitations," Willimon says. I was lucky to get into film at a time that was very interesting for drama. But if you look now, the focus is not on the same kind of films that were made in the 90s. When I look now, the most interesting plots, the most interesting characters, they are on TV.
Underwood also uses Russo in a plot to end a teachers' strike and pass an education bill, which improves Underwood's standing with Walker. Because the new Vice President is the former Governor of Pennsylvania, a special election is to be held for his successor. Underwood helps Russo get clean and props up his candidacy, but later uses sex worker Rachel Posner to break his sobriety and trigger his downfall shortly before the election. When Russo decides to come clean about his role in Underwood's schemes, Frank kills Russo and stages his death as a suicide.
In season five, he has sex with Eric Rawlings (Malcolm Madera), his male personal trainer. Many critics have described him as a sociopath with psychopathic tendencies and as "pure evil". Often, Underwood's thoughts throughout the series are presented in a direct address to the audience, a narrative technique known as breaking the fourth wall.
The sixth and final season was produced and released in 2018 without his involvement. Those were the final words spoken by the surviving character on House of Cards — Claire Hale — before the Robin Wright-starring political saga faded to black for the final time. Frank Underwood was portrayed by Kevin Spacey in Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of House of Cards.
Fictional character biography
Frank invites Conway to the White House to assist in the negotiations as a publicity stunt, and Conway helps buy critical time in locating the suspects. However, tensions between the Conways and Underwoods lead to the governor ending his role in the crisis. Six months into his presidency, Frank pushes for a controversial jobs program called America Works. Determined not to be a "placeholder" President, Underwood reverses his previous pledge and runs in the 2016 election, competing against Heather Dunbar in the Democratic primaries. Zoe and two colleagues, Lucas Goodwin and Janine Skorsky, continue investigating Frank and ultimately locate Rachel. As a protective measure, Frank's aide Doug Stamper brings Rachel to a safe house while Frank lures Zoe to a Metro station and, unseen by witnesses or security cameras, pushes her in front of an oncoming train.
The Murder Suspects
He was elected Whip for the Democratic Party in 2005, serving as House Majority Whip between 2005 and 2013. When Lucas Goodwin shoots Underwood during a campaign event, Meechum trades fire with the would-be assassin, and both die at the scene. Meechum's death is one of the tragedies Claire mentions in a press briefing for a gun control bill she is sponsoring, and Underwood has him buried in Arlington National Cemetery, a rare privilege for a Secret Service agent. When Underwood recovers and finds that Meechum's hand tracing has been painted over, he expresses grief and regret at the loss to Claire, who says that Meechum was one of the few people who truly understood them. Zoe hit the big time while working for the Washington Herald, which is actually an out-of-use office of the Baltimore Sun.
Television
Doug meets with Hammerschmidt, providing him with information on Frank's actions. Determined to strike back against her enemies, Claire frames Usher for Yates's murder, claiming he colluded with Russia to do so. Claire then reveals to Doug that she is pregnant with Frank's child, who will become his heir even though Frank secretly left his assets to Doug.
He pretends to be open with his former addictions and problems, but reveals only a small portion of his past. However, this does not work and voters slowly start turning away and losing interest. Underwood begins his overture by orchestrating a fall from grace by Kern. Through Peter Russo, a morally torn congressman, Underwood is able to manipulate a drug addicted editor of the Kern's former college newspaper.
Cast and characters
Frank and Claire allow the kidnappers to speak to the deposed leader of ICO, Yusuf al Ahmadi, after successfully obtaining the release of two of the hostages. Instead of defusing the situation as he agreed, al Ahmadi urges the kidnappers to kill the remaining hostage and broadcast the killing to the public. Meanwhile, Hammerschmidt publishes his story and threatens to end Frank's campaign weeks before the election. Claire urges Frank to use a heavier hand in the situation, and they decide to fight back by creating chaos.

How House of Cards' Frank Underwood Manipulated His Way To The Top--In Chart-Form.
Immediately prior to starring in House of Cards, Spacey had starred in a production of William Shakespeare's Richard III as Richard III of England, a character that serves as a partial basis for both Urquhart and Underwood. His last name is derived from Oscar Underwood, who served as the first Democratic House Minority Whip from about 1900 to 1901. His few vices include smoking cigarettes and playing video games; when the Secret Service cuts off his online gaming service after he becomes Vice President, he takes up creating model figurines.
More Must-Reads From TIME
In order to reach the top, he traps the president in a scandal, and when the president resigns rather than being impeached, Underwood becomes the leader of the free world without the bother of being elected. Meanwhile, Hammerschmidt continues to investigate Zoe's death, and is given information by an unknown leaker within the White House. Major document dumps are made available to Hammerschmidt, which, among other charges, prompts an impeachment hearing against Frank. In response, the Underwoods set up extensive surveillance on all White House personnel. Eventually, the leaker makes a voice-modulated call to Hammerschmidt, implicating Doug in Zoe's murder.
Ian Bohen Teases ‘Yellowstone’ Will Have the “Best Series Finale in History”
(The color red along with the “pain” reference were nods to how the series began, says Pugliese.) Doug, however, fails to go through with the act and Claire turns the weapon on him, stabbing him in the stomach. Doug dies in her arms and — in what James Gibson calls a “full circle” series moment — Claire flashes one last look to the audience after silencing the person who knows all of her secrets. 'House of Cards' showrunners Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson speak to The Hollywood Reporter about the shocking, open-ended season six finale of the Robin Wright Netflix saga.
He made his first appearance in the series' pilot episode, "Chapter 1". Lucas Goodwin is released from prison, and seeks revenge against Frank for having him framed and Zoe Barnes killed. Desperate, he attempts to assassinate Frank, severely wounding the president in the abdomen and killing bodyguard Edward Meechum, but not before Meechum fatally wounds Lucas.

How did Frank Underwood die? House of Cards Season 6 teaser offers clues..
Underwood still lags in the polls, however, and on election night it appears he is going to lose to Conway. With help from Stamper and campaign strategist LeAnn Harvey (Neve Campbell), Underwood has NSA contractor Aidan Macallan (Damian Young) stage a cyberattack on several election stations. He also uses the fear of a possible terrorist attack to pressure the governors of Tennessee and Ohio to halt voting. The tactics work; the two states refuse to declare a winner, and the election drags on unresolved for several weeks. Frank Underwood's tenure as the 46th president of the United States began with his first inauguration on October 30, 2014, and ended on March 15, 2017 upon his resignation.
Underwood develops an intimate relationship with Washington Herald and Slugline reporter Zoe Barnes, with Claire's knowledge. They begin a relationship, with Barnes promising to earn his trust and not "ask any questions" in return for his supplying her with sensitive political information. Underwood ultimately kills Barnes in the season 2 premiere, by pushing her in front of an oncoming Washington Metro train after she begins to follow clues related to the murder.
The ensuing investigation led to Tusk's implication of Walker and Walker's resignation. With connection to China exposed, Walker was trapped and resigned his presidency. Underwood ensures they are both aware of this mutual dislike, by mentioning their comments told in confidence to him, to the other.
Underwood was officially sworn into his second term on February 17, 2017, the first time that a presidential inauguration had not occurred on January 20th. After a hostage crisis escalates, Underwood announces that he is going to war with terror as a fear tactic to win the election. Having given up on negotiating, one of the hostages is killed as a result, with Underwood and Claire staring coldly at the horrific footage.
Claire confronts Doug, who’s still deeply loyal to the late president, saying she knows it was him. Doug breaks down, revealing that on the night Frank died, Frank was preparing to kill Claire. Doug spontaneously (and bizarrely, considering their relationship) decides to take matters into his own hands, killing Frank in order to protect the president, and his legacy, from himself. Underwood eventually had a few discussions with Barnes, before meeting with her in a subway station.

Nude passengers are not allowed to sit directly on cruise ship furnishings. You can, however, use a towel that will be provided onboard the cruise ship. That said, you don’t have to be a naturist to go on a nude cruise. Often you’ll hear people say it’s a way of leaving egos at the door.

It's important when booking a nude cruise to decide if you are a nudist or a swinger. It’s reported that 70% of guests are repeat customers, so you may start to recognise regular cruisers if this is something that you do often. So say you still want to take advantage of the balcony in your birthday suit — or with a partner — even if it runs the risk of being seen by someone else. In that case, there’s a simple suggestion to limit the potential embarrassment. "If you're naked on your balcony drinking your morning coffee and enjoying your morning coffee and your neighbors can't see you, it's fine," Heald wrote.

Also, your carry-on luggage is fine to take with you to board so pack it for your basic needs. And here’s the thing, the passenger return rate is a phenomenal 75%, a number that other companies only dream about. Instead the ships are chartered by third-party companies who hire the cruise ships for a set amount of time and then market the event as a nude cruise. Most cruise ships do not have nude decks unless it’s a chartered nude cruise. On cruises in Europe, you may find that topless sunbathing is permitted in a designated area on the top deck. However, specialist nude cruise companies sometimes charter Royal Caribbean ships to host clothing-optional cruises. This adults-only cruise line’s new ship, which will sail in February 2020, promises everything from themed parties to a Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired Red Room.
When embarking on a nude cruise with Bare Necessities, anticipate a liberating atmosphere blended with traditional cruise amenities. Remember, each nude cruise might have its own set of rules, activities, and demographics. It’s always beneficial to contact the cruise line directly if you have specific questions or concerns.
Heald also reminded would-be streakers that even if the watchful eyes of the crew don't deter nudity, there's always the chance that there will be a boat nearby. Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald is paid to take lots of Carnival cruises and spend his days responding to cruise nuts on Facebook. For most of us, vacations are a time to relax, unwind, explore new places, learn new things and meet new people – all at a comfortable, unhurried pace. Sadly, sometimes we get it wrong and return home stressed beyond belief but with a long, completely checked-off itinerary in our pockets. This was the most perfect, natural way to start the day and we would experience the same sensation each day for the next 12 days as we sailed on the world’s largest square rigger around the Mediterranean – in the nude.

Referred to as the 747 Advanced prior to its launch, the uses similar General Electric GEnx engines and cockpit technology to the 787. The variant is designed to be quieter, more economical, and more environmentally friendly. The 747-8's fuselage is lengthened from 232 feet (71 m) to 251 feet (77 m),[202] marking the first stretch variant of the aircraft. In reality, how fast cruise ships go has little to do with the time of day and more to do with fuel efficiency, weather, the ship’s schedule, and passenger comfort. As a recognized Lean+ innovator, Boeing Commercial Airplanes has or will achieve certification for all manufacturing sites under stringent ISO environmental management standards.

However, captains can adjust the amount of thrust and the direction of each pod, allowing the vessel to turn or even travel in reverse. The Queen Mary 2 can make a transatlantic crossing in five days at its top speed. However, it usually sticks to its average cruising speed and makes the trip in seven days. technical parameters Boeing 747
A lighter aircraft is more efficient, consumes less fuel, costs less to maintain, and is subject to lower weight-based navigation and landing fees. The Boeing 747 can increase its velocity by using these jet streams because of its capacity to fly at high altitudes. Pilots use meteorological data to meticulously arrange their itineraries so they can air travel on these unseen sky lanes. In addition to cutting down on journey time, this deliberate usage of jet streams increases the Boeing 747’s overall speed and efficiency. Single-engine airplanes, such as the Cessna 172, fly considerably slower than commercial airplanes.
Speeds of Different Aircraft Types
In addition to being long and thin, the wing’s high aspect ratio increases lift and lowers fuel consumption. Plus, the wing comes with a supercritical airfoil, decreasing drag at high speeds by delaying the introduction of shock waves and having a downward slope at the trailing edge. Its aerodynamic design, particularly its wing, makes the 747 quicker than other aircraft. To minimize drag and increase speed, the 747’s huge wings have a 37.5-degree high sweep angle.

Passenger flight flying over Pacific reaches 822 mph in jet stream - The Washington Post
Passenger flight flying over Pacific reaches 822 mph in jet stream.
The first Boeing Freighter took to the skies on February 8, 2010. The airplane followed a route over Western Washington, where it underwent tests for basic handling qualities and engine performance. The airplane reached a cruising altitude of 17,000 feet (5,181 m) and a speed of up to 230 knots, or about 264 miles (426 km) per hour. While today’s commercial airplanes won’t take you across the Atlantic Ocean in less than a few hours, most major airliners travel at decent speeds. Commercial airplanes are non-military aircraft suited to carry passengers and/or freight between airports. Rolls-Royce followed 747 engine production with a launch order from British Airways for four aircraft.
Emissions such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, smoke, and nitrogen oxides affect air quality near airports. The performs substantially better than all 2008 emissions standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP). The speed of a cruise on a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship, for example, is knots. And most other cruise lines have an average speed of between 19 and 22 knots. For perspective, a 20-knot average cruising speed is the same speed as 23 miles per hour on land. Below, we answer all of your questions on speed and cruise ships.
Design effort
For the typical single-engine plane, you’ll be able to fly around 140 mph (122 knots). However, some of the more advance single-engine airplanes, like the Pilatus PC-12 NGX, have a top speed of 334 mph (290 knots). For most commercial airliners, the airplane’s cruising speed ranges between 550 and 600 mph (478 to 521 knots).
So, to convert knots or nautical miles per hour to land miles per hour, you have to add 15% to the land mile. However, water conditions, bad weather, and several other factors can affect cruise ship speed on any particular day. So, the same ship might register two different top speeds if we were to give it trials on two separate days. However, if a passenger has a medical emergency and needs to reach the nearest port, the captain may choose to take the cruise ship to top speed. In short, the cruising speed of a ship dramatically depends on the ship’s size and design. The ship’s structure will determine how it burns fuel and how it navigates changing ocean conditions, all of which affect its speed.
An aircraft’s speed, known as airspeed, is typically measured in four different ways. No matter which type you use, all airspeed is represented in knots. John Cox is a retired airline captain with US Airways and runs his own aviation safety consulting company, Safety Operating Systems.
Although this component is tuned for the 747-8, its foundation is the 787 Dreamliner engine. Boeing has studied a number of 747 variants that have not gone beyond the concept stage.
If you know the ship you want to track, enter the ship name or ship line name in the search box below. A racing sailboat can reach up to 15 knots, but a regular sailboat moves at much slower speeds, usually only 4 to 6 knots. Azipods consist of a pitched propeller mounted within a steerable pod. Cruise ships typically have bow thrusters that sit along the ship’s bow and are essentially locked in position.
The 25,000 ton Olympia Voyager (aka Costa Voyager, Voyager, and Grand Voyager and now owned by Bohai Ferry Company) can travel as fast as 27 knots or 31 miles per hour. But 25,000 tons is very small by the standards of today’s cruise ships, and the Voyager is really an ocean liner and not a cruise ship. Even though cruise ships are immense in size, it’s amazing how fast they can travel. This speed translates into around 23 mph – 27 mph.How does “knots” translate into mph? You can simple multiply the knots figure by 1.15 to figure out how fast that is in miles per hour. Thirty knots is fast for a ship, and most cruise ships never travel at it.
The Queen Mary 2 is the fastest ocean liner currently in service. It has an average speed of 28.5 knots but a maximum speed of 30 knots. Cruise captains maintain speed to get them to port on time, not too early or too late. Ports typically charge by the hour so getting there early is costly.
